About Courtney

Do you feel like you constantly have to be on top of everything? Feeling completely drained from pushing so hard but have this inner sense that it is still not enough? What about a lingering pit of self-doubt no matter what you achieve and how successful you are? Has this struggle strained your relationships or made it difficult to find meaning and purpose in your life? Is it hard to admit YOU might be the one who needs support?

If you said yes to any of those things, welcome to the side of mental health that GETS IT. Self-identified high achiever, former athlete, and recovering perfectionist at your service.

Being a therapist is one of my deepest joys and a privilege I will never take for granted. It was hard for me to recognize when I needed support and I feared saying that would risk everything I had worked so hard for. However, through my own journey I realized that having success AND mental well-being, at the same time, was totally possible! In my virtual practice, I work with athletes and high achievers in Texas on all kinds of topics so that they can start to overcome their challenges and achieve success in all aspects of their lives.

Therapy Approach

There are numerous ways to approach therapy, but I believe that having a therapist that approaches this unique relationship in a way that fits with you is important to the success of therapy.

First, my therapy style is collaborative and modeled after something called narrative therapy. Together, we will identify what your life experiences have told you about who you are, how you should show up in the world, and how the world impacts you. You may have noticed throughout your life that your experiences have taken on meaning and impacted the way you think, feel, and act which informs the way you see yourself. By learning to distance yourself from difficult experiences, it becomes easier to identify the skills and values you hold that aid you in overcoming problems and creating a values-aligned life. Together, we will identify, rewrite, and empower you to change these stories to accomplish your goals. This may look like working together to identify what to discuss in session, what skills to implement, and what to practice outside of session. I will act as the bumpers to ensure we are moving toward your goals, but you get to choose how fast, slow, and in what direction we go to reach those goals.

Additionally, my therapy style is solution-focused. This means that I help you to identify tangible, practical, achievable steps forward that can alleviate distress and create real change in your life. Throughout our time together we will work on taking a narrative approach to your life stories, but we will also identify actionable steps towards changing patterns and practicing new skills of managing hard situations, interacting with yourself and others, and preparing for success when you leave the therapy space.
